This combo plays surf rock, surf instrumentals and surf music in a traditional and soulful way. Traditional by using Vintage Fender Guitars, Vintage Fender Amplifiers and Reverb Tanks (a classic surf band). The Breakaways are a traditional and classic surf band, collectively having over 100 years of experience as musicians! "The Breakaways have a knack for a softer brand of surf instrumental that is very attractive and very traditional, yet lush and round. Most of the arrangements are with lead guitar supported by two rhythm guitars, one dry chords and one damped and heavily reverbed, not unlike the Astronauts'.
